The ferryhouse is ideally situated on the River Barrow bordering counties Kilkenny, Wexford and Waterford. With
some of the most spectacular walks in Leinster and Munster in close proximity, it is a superb
location with a vast choice of River, Mountain and Coastal exploring to be had.
Along the Leinster way the Blackstairs Mountains
offer some really exhilarating hikes including the highest peak - Mount Leinster.
A more relaxed hike along Brandon
Hill, all the way down to the unique village
of Inistioge is
unforgettable.
Slightly further afield are the
Comeragh Mountains, famously known for their ice age topography offering an
array of glacier lakes and waterfalls to find along the way.
If distance walking takes your
fancy, we are placed along some of the best known river tow paths in Ireland. Stretching
over 70km through Co.’s Wexford, Carlow and
Kilkenny, this is a leisurely option with plenty of beautiful spots to call in for
a pint or have a picnic along the many Lough Gates and villages including St.
Mullins and Graiguenamanagh.
Fethard on Sea is roughly 25
minutes from the Ferry House and is the doorway to one of the nicest coastlines
in Ireland.
For surfing and cliff walks the Hook Peninsula
is famously known for exquisite beaches that have attracted surfers, diving
enthusiasts and photographers from all over the world, especially in recent
years as whale watching has been added to the list of attractions here.
The home of Europe’s
oldest lighthouse is not to be missed.
